Terms of use
Terms of use for the free GAIP service.
Draft — pending legal review
Last updated 10 October 2026. Operator: Toby Graham, a sole trader trading as GAIP. Contact: agents@gaipagents.com or gaipagents.com/contact. Post: 11 Hippodrome Mews, London W11 4NN. TODO(founder): add the company registration number once GAIP's company is formed.
1. What the service is
GAIP provides free, read-only checks for software agents and their operators. Each check returns evidence about what was supplied to GAIP or publicly observed at a stated time, together with its limits and explicit unknowns, and usually a receipt that can be verified later. There is no account, price or contract.
2. Not advice, not certification
Outputs are informational evidence only. They are not certification, accreditation, audit, endorsement, a ranking, a universal score or a guarantee of any agent, service, supplier or person. They are not legal, financial, investment, valuation, insurance, procurement or other professional advice. GAIP does not decide whether you should delegate, buy, pay, rely or act; that decision and its consequences remain with you and your operator.
3. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". Evidence can be incomplete, stale, disputed, corrected or wrong, and a check describes only the moment it ran. GAIP gives no warranty that the service or any output is accurate, complete, available, fit for a particular purpose or free of errors, to the extent the law allows.
4. No reliance for safety-critical decisions
Do not rely on a GAIP output alone for any decision where an error could cause injury, significant financial loss, legal effect on a person, or harm to critical systems. Verify independently first.
5. Acceptable use
You may use the service for lawful purposes with public or non-personal data. You must not: submit personal data, secrets, credentials or confidential information; use GAIP to test, probe or attack systems you are not authorised to test (GAIP itself reads only public metadata and endpoints you point it to); misrepresent a GAIP output as certification, endorsement or a statement about a party's honesty; overload or disrupt the service or evade its rate limits; use the service in breach of UK sanctions, including for or on behalf of a person designated under them; or use outputs to harass, defame or unfairly disparage anyone. GAIP may refuse, rate-limit or stop requests to protect the service or others.
6. Receipts and your content
You keep any rights you have in what you submit. You grant GAIP the permission it needs to process the submission, retain the resulting receipt and publish the receipt or aggregate, non-personal statistics derived from it. Receipts prove what GAIP recorded and when; they do not make the underlying claim true.
7. Limitation of liability
GAIP's findings, receipts and preference answers are free statements of what GAIP's records showed at the time stated. They are not advice, consent, certification or a guarantee, and you must decide for yourself whether to rely on them. These terms do not limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, GAIP's total liability to you for all claims about the free service is limited to £100, and GAIP is not liable for loss of profit, business or data, or for fines or penalties imposed on you. GAIP owes no duty to anyone other than the parties to a deal or the party asking a preference check.
8. Changes, corrections and governing law
GAIP may change or withdraw the service or these terms; the version on this page applies from its date. See corrections and opt-out to challenge an observation. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without removing any mandatory protection you have where you live.
9. Reuse of aggregate Observatory figures
The aggregate figures GAIP's Agent Observatory publishes (counts and rates in its monthly report and weekly snapshots, with no per-target results) are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, share and adapt them for any purpose, including commercially, if you credit the GAIP Agent Observatory, use the citation shown with the figures, link to the licence and say if you changed them. The licence does not cover per-agent or per-shop results, receipts, GAIP's software, its name or logo, or these pages; those remain under these terms. TODO(founder): confirm this clause at legal review.
10. Second Look by GAIP
Second Look is a free service of GAIP. It shows what a shop's own page and data said at the time shown; it is not advice and not a statement that a shop is right or wrong. Prices and stock change: check the shop before you buy. GAIP is paid by no shop and uses no affiliate links. A Second Look receipt is GAIP's record of what a page showed, not a retailer's receipt or proof of purchase. Second Look is not aimed at children under 13. Don't use it to copy shops' catalogues or in breach of UK sanctions. The rest of these terms apply.
Every answer and receipt states two facts, what the page showed and what the claim said, and never a verdict on a shop or an assistant. An agent that presents its continuity handle gets a receipt bound to that handle by a keyed hash, kept 90 days; a mandate reference it names is kept as a keyed hash only. Neither makes GAIP a party to the purchase, and a receipt is not a statement about who is right.
A vendor that submits what an assistant answered about a product (gaip_second_look_pair) is responsible for what it submits. GAIP records that it received the submission at the stated time beside its own reading of the page; it does not read the assistant's answer at its source and does not say the submission is true. Such records are never published per assistant and enter the anonymous figures only in cells of five from three shops. Free; nothing in Second Look charges or gates.
11. GAIP Deals
This section was adopted by GAIP's founder on 9 October 2026 (decision #51) from the Legal desk's researched answers.
GAIP Deals (on Witness: witness_accept_terms and witness_finding) is for businesses only. Both parties must confirm business purpose before GAIP gives any finding: the seller when it accepts the terms and the buyer by confirming on the agreement. Each states: “This party acts for purposes relating to its trade, business, craft or profession, and this deal is not a contract with a consumer.” Until both have, GAIP gives the evidence summary and no finding. A deal either party marks as a consumer contract gets the evidence summary only. This finding is void if the contract is in fact a consumer contract (a party acting wholly or mainly outside its trade, business, craft or profession).
Expert determination. Where both parties have chosen it: GAIP acts as an expert, not an arbitrator, and this is not an arbitration agreement. GAIP determines only whether GAIP's delivery records meet the parties' rule; it takes no evidence or submissions. The finding binds the parties and cannot be challenged except for fraud, collusion, partiality, manifest error or a material departure from the agreed rule. Otherwise a finding is evidence only, which each party takes to its own payment provider, platform or court. A finding never decides a sum of money or a refund, and GAIP holds no money.
Sign-offs. A sign-off (witness_signoff) is GAIP's record that a stated role (APPROVER, REVIEWER, OWNER, OPERATOR, or an opaque role id kept only as a keyed hash) recorded a stated decision (APPROVED, REFUSED or CHANGED) at a stated time; the decision is that role's as recorded, never GAIP's own, and GAIP accepts no free text. It may support a deployer's own evidence of oversight; it is not a statement that any duty was met.
Served notices. GAIP Served (witness_serve) delivers a sender's cancellation, complaint, withdrawal, termination or dispute notice to an agent endpoint only where that endpoint's own preference record allows service notices through GAIP, and keeps a signed record of the attempt, the delivery, the endpoint's answer and the time. A GAIP serve receipt is a signed record that GAIP delivered the stated notice to the stated endpoint at the stated time and of what the endpoint answered. It is not a qualified electronic registered delivery service and carries none of the presumptions of UK eIDAS Article 43(2). Whether this notice had any effect is a matter between the parties. The notice text is the sender's own content and the sender answers for it; GAIP keeps it under the receipt retention rule and returns it only to the sender and the recipient endpoint. GAIP delivers no marketing: there is no commercial class.
Section 7 (limitation of liability) applies to findings and sign-offs, and to GAIP's own failure to deliver or record a served notice.
12. GAIP Statements
This section follows the Legal desk's round-two record of 9 October 2026 (R9-R10) and GAIP's founder's decision #52 of the same day approving its wording rule.
A GAIP statement (GET /v1/statements/{YYYY-MM}, tool gaip_statement) is a signed monthly record of what GAIP recorded for the agents bound to the continuity handle you present. It is served only to that handle. Every statement says: “A record of what GAIP recorded for the agents bound to this handle; not an invoice, an account between parties or a statement that any sum is owed.” It is not an invoice, a bill or an account between you and anyone, and it does not say that any sum is owed by or to anyone; it shows what GAIP recorded and when, with the receipt for each line. It is Ed25519-signed by GAIP so that its authenticity can be checked (Electronic Communications Act 2000, section 7); that signature says the statement is GAIP's and unaltered, nothing more.
Free and paid. The month's totals by kind and the chain head are free. The full statement (every line, the PDF and the CSV export) is free for now as a preview, labelled as such; GAIP will say on this page before it becomes a paid tier, and nothing is charged until then.
If you buy a statement as a consumer. Statements are made for businesses. If you are a sole trader and buy a statement wholly or mainly for purposes outside your trade, business, craft or profession, you buy it as a consumer and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies: the statement is digital content, so it must be as described, fit for its purpose and of satisfactory quality, and you have the remedies that Act gives (repair or replacement, then a price reduction or refund). Nothing in these terms takes those rights away.
Section 7 (limitation of liability, £100) applies to statements.
13. The agent-commerce record
The agent-commerce record is a free service of GAIP. A check answers with what a shop's own file at /.well-known/agent-commerce.json said when GAIP read it, with the read date and the file's hash. "The shop's own agent-commerce file as GAIP read it at the stated time; the shop may not have published one, or may have changed it since. Not a statement that the shop accepts, admits or honours anything." It is not advice, not a statement about the shop's conduct, and not a statement that any agent may use the shop's checkout; the decision stays with the agent and the person it acts for. A shop publishes the file on its own domain and is responsible for what it says; GAIP records what it said and when. GAIP is paid by no shop and uses no affiliate links. The format, its schema, the Action template and GAIP's example file are published under CC BY 4.0. The rest of these terms apply.
Second Look evidence export
The evidence export is a free export of GAIP's own records about one receipt, made for a party to that receipt (the agent whose handle bound it, or the shop holding its merchant copy). It is not advice, not a legal service, not a finding about any party, and not a statement that any card scheme's or marketplace's evidence rules are met: it names dispute-form fields as field names only, and the party decides what to send and to whom. Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and a card scheme's dispute process are the parties' own; GAIP's record may support a claim and never says one exists. Nothing in a bundle is about a third party. The format is published under CC BY 4.0; a bundle itself is for the party that exported it. Every bundle carries: “GAIP's signed record of what it recorded at the times shown. It is not advice, and not a statement about who is right.” The rest of these terms apply.
13. Order-time capture
Order-time capture is a free part of GAIP's Shopify app that a merchant may switch on. For each order it records what the shop's own public product pages showed when the order was received, as a signed, dated receipt. Every receipt says: “GAIP's signed record of what the shop's public product pages showed when this order was received, read by GAIP at the stated time. Not a retailer's receipt, not proof of purchase, and not a statement about who is right.” It is not advice, not a retailer's receipt, not proof of purchase and not a statement that the shop, the shopper or any agent is right; it does not say that any price, saving or deadline was lawful or genuine. GAIP reads only the shop's own pages, never cart or checkout, and holds no customer data. Nothing is charged for it, and GAIP uses no affiliate links. Section 7 (limitation of liability, £100) applies. The rest of these terms apply.
The compliance record
The compliance record is GAIP's own daily readings of the product pages a merchant chose, read at the stated times, with the days GAIP could not read shown as such. The export is a signed copy of those readings for the merchant (the party holding the app's party token) and for nobody else. It shows what the page showed on each day and the lowest price GAIP itself observed in the last 30 days over the days it read; it does not fill in days it did not read, and it does not say whether any price, saving, reference price or deadline was or was not lawful, usual or typical. Where a countdown stated an end and a later reading still showed one, both readings are given and nothing is concluded from them. The export is not advice, not a finding and not a statement about any trader, and GAIP does not rank, score or compare shops with it. The format is CC BY 4.0.
Every series and export says: GAIP's own daily readings of this shop's public product page, with the days it could not read. Not a statement that any price, saving or deadline was or was not lawful, usual or genuine.
14. The act log
The act log is a free service of GAIP: one signed, chained entry per act an agent says it did, promised, checked or was told, kept as hashes bound to the agent's continuity handle, with the Statement, the switch pack, the evidence export and a COSE receipt as its views. Every entry, answer, page and export says: “GAIP records that an agent submitted this entry at the stated time, and, where shown, what a public page showed when GAIP read it. GAIP did not witness the act and does not say it happened as described.” An entry is the submission as recorded. It is not advice, not a finding about any party, not a statement that an act, a payment, a delivery or an agreement happened, and not a statement about what the hashes stand for; a declared amount is recorded as declared and never checked. GAIP is not a party to the act and not a processor for the agent: it does, pays, holds and promises nothing. Where two keys signed the same digest (a cosigner), GAIP records that fact and whether its Keys record lists the cosigner's key id for the named host (KEY_KNOWN or KEY_NOT_KNOWN); it does not check the signature and says nothing about whether the two signatures made a contract, which is between the parties. The switch pack is GAIP's own export of the entries bound to a handle, in an open, signed format any agent can read; it binds no other provider, and GAIP says nothing about what any other service does with it. The evidence export over an entry follows the Second Look evidence export's terms: names of dispute-form fields only, never a statement that any scheme's evidence rules are met. The COSE receipt is the same signature in a second encoding, and GAIP's Internet-Draft describes the format and offers GAIP as a transparency service in the sense of RFC 9943 only: no certification, no adoption claimed. Outside entries are accepted since GAIP's founder signed off the data protection impact assessment on 11 Oct 2026. GAIP reads only public product pages, once, at the agent's request, never Amazon, eBay or Etsy, and keeps values, not pages. Nothing is charged and GAIP uses no affiliate links. Section 7 (limitation of liability, £100) applies. The rest of these terms apply.
15. The recall watch
The recall watch is GAIP's own daily match of regulators' published notices against the identifiers a handle registered. A MATCHED notice carried one of those identifiers; a POSSIBLE_MATCH shares words with the product's name, and GAIP says: check that it is the same product. The absence of a match means that no notice GAIP read matched these identifiers on the stated date, nothing more: GAIP does not say that any product is safe, unsafe or recalled, reads only the lists named on the privacy page, since its previous read, and may miss a notice those lists do not carry or carry late. The regulator's own notice, at its link, is the only statement about the product. Free, no affiliate links, the £100 cap of these terms.
Every answer and entry says: “GAIP's own daily match of regulators' published notices against the identifiers this handle registered, as of the stated time. A match is a notice whose words matched; GAIP does not say that any product is safe, unsafe or recalled.” The rest of these terms apply.
